Due Diligence for Schools joining Multi Academy Trusts: The publication of the White Paper has signalled the Government’s intention that every school should become an academy by 2022. It is likely that there will now be considerable momentum towards joining or forming new Multi Academy Trusts. There are also some media reports that local authority education staff may be allowed to form MATs, possibly with a continuing role for the LEA in some supporting capacity.
These are exciting times and some schools are choosing to seize the initiative and formulate their plans now, rather than risk facing Hobson’s choice. This Briefing Paper outlines some key questions and issues schools will need to probe before forming or joining a Multi Academy Trust.
